About me
I'm Felix Grad from Dithmarschen in Schleswig-Holstein, northern Germany, known online as FelixTheDev or F_lixTheDev: this website and the GitHub profile felixthedevgit are mine. Since August 2025 I've been training as an IT specialist for system integration at a municipal administration.
There I build software my colleagues use every day: form and feedback services and tools for everyday administration. That is why they have to work without a manual, and everything runs on our own hardware.
Alongside that I take on work as FelixTheDev: websites, apps and automation, with a maintenance contract if you like. We agree on scope and price together, and on every job you talk to me directly.
How I work
I plan for data protection and security from the start, not just before launch.
GDPR data protection from day one
As little data as possible, no trackers, no cookies without a reason and encrypted connections. I supply the technical details for your privacy policy.
Nothing from third-party servers
Fonts, scripts and images live on your own server. Opening your site connects visitors to nobody else.
Data encrypted or not at all
I only store personal data when it is needed, and then encrypted.
Works on a phone
Every interface has to work as well on a small screen as it does on a computer.
What I work with
Languages, runtimes and tools, each with what I use it for and how much experience I have with it.
Languages
- JavaScriptExperience: 5 out of 5
The language I write most days. Everything from the form service at work to the script that draws my GitHub profile.
- TypeScriptExperience: 3 out of 5
For projects that outgrow a handful of files. The types catch mistakes I would otherwise meet at runtime.
- HTMLExperience: 4 out of 5
Every interface I ship is hand-written markup: semantic elements, forms that work without a script, and pages a screen reader can follow.
- CSSExperience: 4 out of 5
Custom properties, grid and a few animations, no framework. The dark colour scheme is a second set of variables, not an afterthought.
- C#Experience: 1 out of 5
Still new to me, for a desktop tool at work. I like how much the compiler catches before anything runs.
Runtimes and frameworks
- Node.jsExperience: 5 out of 5
My server runtime of choice. One process, no third-party services, and a standard library that covers more with every release.
- ExpressExperience: 4 out of 5
Routing and middleware for the services I build. The handlers stay thin; the actual logic lives in modules that know nothing about HTTP.
- .NETExperience: 1 out of 5
Arrived together with C#. So far one desktop tool runs on it.
Tools and platforms
- SQLiteExperience: 4 out of 5
One file per service, personal data encrypted before it is written. No database server to run, back up or upgrade.
- DockerExperience: 3 out of 5
Every service ships as one container on my own hardware behind a reverse proxy. An update is a new image and a restart.
- LinuxExperience: 3 out of 5
The servers run Linux: systemd, SSH, backups, and reading logs when something doesn't come back up.
- GitExperience: 4 out of 5
Branches, pull requests and tagged releases, even when I'm the only one on the project.
- GitHub ActionsExperience: 3 out of 5
Builds release images and redraws my GitHub profile every day. Pinned versions and as few permissions as possible.
